Race Details
The 5K9 event begins at Bike Lake Placid shortly after the 10K start. This out-and-back course is approximately 5 kilometers.
- Hydration: To reduce waste and minimize our environmental footprint, the finish line and aid stations will be cup-less. Runners are encouraged their own reusable bottle or hydration pack.
- Aid Station: There will be one on-course station located at the turnaround point in the middle of the Ray Brook straightaway.
- Parking: Participant parking is available at the Lake Placid Firehouse lot near the starting line.
- Capacity & Flow: Registration is limited to reduce trail congestion. Wave starts may be used to accommodate all runners and other Rail Trail users.
- Pet Etiquette: Please bring a non-retractable leash and your own waste bags to keep our trails clean.
- Safety Restriction: For the safety of all participants, children under 13 are not permitted to run with a pet, regardless of leash status.
Family & Participant Guidelines
- Age Requirements: Children of all ages are welcome! However, kids under 13 must run with a parent. Parents must sign a waiver for all participating minors.
- Childcare & Entertainment: For kids not participating in the races, we are providing a “non-sanctioned” daycare area featuring a self-supervised bounce house and the potential return of the mechanical bull to keep them entertained while parents are on the course.
- Mother’s Day Honors: To celebrate the moms in our community, flowers will be awarded to the top 5 mothers in each division.
Racing for a Cause
Your registration helps support two vital local organizations:
- Adirondack Rail Trail Association (ARTA): A portion of all proceeds helps maintain this incredible resource for locals and visitors.
- Tri-Lakes Humane Society: A portion of 5K9 proceeds will be donated to support their work with local pets.
